Zambian Lands FIFA Job

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has announced that its Technical Director, Lyson Zulu, has been appointed by FIFA as the Technical Development Scheme High Performance Specialist for Africa.

Confirming the development in a statement issued in Lusaka, FAZ Head of Media and Communications Nkweto Tembwe said Zulu’s appointment reflects both his steady professional rise and the growing recognition of Zambian football administration on the global stage.

Zulu brings to the role strong international credentials. In 2024, he was among only 24 Technical Directors worldwide to be awarded the FIFA Technical Leadership Diploma in Zurich, after successfully completing an intensive 18-month academic programme designed to develop elite football administrators.

FAZ General Secretary Machacha Shepande described the appointment as a moment of pride for the association, even as it comes with the challenge of losing one of its most experienced technical leaders.

“Congratulations, Mr Zulu. Your journey is truly inspiring, and your impact will continue to be felt far beyond our borders. While FAZ will miss your expertise, we can only wish you the very best as you take the next step in your career,” Shepande said.

He added that Zulu’s elevation to a FIFA role is a strong endorsement of the quality of technical expertise being nurtured within FAZ, and a clear signal of the association’s growing reputation as a breeding ground for high-level football professionals.

“This achievement represents not only a personal milestone for Mr Zulu, but also a victory for FAZ, Zambian football, and African football as a whole,” Shepande noted.

Shepande further observed that Zulu’s new role presents a valuable opportunity for Zambia to contribute to the shaping of high-performance football systems across the continent. Through his work at FIFA, Zulu is expected to play a key role in strengthening Africa’s competitiveness, improving technical structures, and enhancing the continent’s relevance on the global football stage.

Zulu’s appointment adds to a growing list of Zambian professionals making their mark in international football administration, underscoring the country’s expanding influence beyond the pitch.
