Yango Zambia, a subsidiary of the global tech company Yango Group, has strengthened its commitment to driver empowerment and safety through a comprehensive Driver Platform & Safety Education event held in Lusaka.
The gathering brought together partner drivers for a day dedicated to learning, innovation, and interactive engagement—underscoring Yango’s growing role in Zambia’s ride-hailing ecosystem.
The event equipped drivers with practical tools and updated knowledge to improve efficiency, safety, and understanding of the platform’s evolving features. Headlining the day was the official launch of “My Area,” a new in-app feature that enables drivers to select preferred operating zones and view passenger destinations before accepting a ride.
Yango Zambia Country Head Kabanda Chewe said the introduction of the feature represents a major step toward greater driver autonomy and transparency.
“Through the ‘My Area’ feature, we’re giving drivers more control and transparency over their work. This feature is part of our broader mission to ensure that every driver feels empowered, informed, and supported as they contribute to a safe and reliable ride-hailing experience. The partner drivers and passengers are the backbone of our platform — their wellbeing and safety are key areas of concern for us,” Chewe said.
Drivers at the event welcomed the innovation, describing it as timely and practical, particularly in helping them plan trips more efficiently and stay within familiar routes.
Yango partner driver Noah Banda praised the feature for improving both convenience and efficiency.
“I’m really thankful to Yango for launching the ‘My Area’ feature because it gives me, as a driver, much more control over where I can go. It allows me to focus on areas I know well and manage my time better — especially during peak hours. This feature helps us save on fuel, stay within familiar routes, and ultimately deliver better service to our passengers. It’s a real game-changer for drivers like me,” Banda said.
Beyond launching My Area, the event included sessions on trip pricing, priority points, and in-app safety tools. Drivers received insights into how earnings are calculated, how rewards systems operate, and how to maximise the platform’s safety protocols to protect both themselves and passengers.
With these initiatives, Yango continues to position itself as a technology-driven mobility partner committed to safety, driver independence, and financial growth, while contributing to the expansion and modernization of Zambia’s digital transport sector.
