KALABO MAN ARRESTED AFTER RETURNING TO CRIME SCENE TO SEARCH FOR DROPPED COINS

A 21-year-old man of Kalabo District in Western Province has been arrested after he allegedly returned to the scene of an attempted rape and robbery to search for coins he dropped during the incident.

The suspect, identified as Chingi Mukisi of Hill Park Compound, was apprehended in Kashitu Compound after family members recognised him when he returned to the victim’s home a few hours after the alleged attack.

According to Western Province Police Commanding Officer Rae Hamoonga, the incident occurred around 02:00 hours when Mukisi allegedly broke into the house of a 28-year-old woman and hid inside before confronting her.

During the struggle that followed, the victim sustained injuries as the suspect allegedly attempted to rape and rob her. In the process, Mukisi is believed to have dropped some coins before fleeing the scene.

However, a few hours later, the suspect reportedly returned to the same house in an attempt to search for the money he had lost during the struggle.

Family members who were present recognised him and quickly alerted the police, leading to his arrest.

Police have since taken Mukisi into custody and investigations into the matter are ongoing.

The incident comes amid a series of recent criminal cases recorded in the country. Recently, four people were arrested in Mansa for allegedly producing counterfeit currency, while in Lusaka a suspected serial robber died after falling ill while leading police officers to recover stolen items.
