HEROES STADIUM READY FOR HICHILEMA’S INAUGURATION

Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa has confirmed that Heroes Stadium is ready to host the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Hakainde Hichilema on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

Mr Kangwa made the confirmation after touring Heroes Stadium, where he inspected preparations for the ceremony and assessed the work being undertaken by various stakeholders.

Speaking after the tour, Mr Kangwa said he was impressed with the progress made so far and expressed confidence that everything would be in place for the inauguration.

He commended the combined inauguration committee for the work done and for remaining focused on the agreed programme and preparations.

Mr Kangwa said the committee, which was constituted 70 days ago to coordinate preparations for the inauguration, had done a commendable job in ensuring that the venue and other arrangements were ready for the historic occasion.

He said the level of organisation demonstrated by the committee and other stakeholders had given him confidence that the ceremony would proceed smoothly.

President Hichilema was declared President-elect by the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) following the August 13, 2026 general election.

He is scheduled to be sworn in as President of the Republic of Zambia for his second term at Heroes Stadium on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.

The inauguration is expected to bring together senior government officials, political leaders, diplomats, traditional leaders and other invited guests, as well as members of the public.
