Police Arrest Lusaka Man for Falsely Publishing Letter Claiming President Hichilema’s Resignation

Police have arrested a 40-year-old man from Lusaka’s Luangwa Compound for publishing a fake letter claiming that President Hakainde Hichilema had resigned.

In a statement on Saturday, Police Deputy Public Relations Officer Chipo Kaitisha said the suspect, Richard Kaunda Mulenga, is the creator and administrator of a Facebook page called “Zambia for All 2026.” Mulenga allegedly posted a fabricated letter purporting to announce President Hichilema’s resignation.

Kaitisha said Mulenga was arrested following a joint operation by the Zambia Police Service and other law enforcement agencies and will appear in court soon.

“The Zambia Police Service has formally charged and arrested Richard Kaunda Mulenga, aged 40, of Luangwa Compound in Lusaka, for making a document without authority, contrary to the law,” Kaitisha stated.
