Zambia Raises Alarm Over New US Visa Bond Requirement

LUSAKA — Zambia’s government expressed serious concern about a new visa bond rule by the United States, which will require Zambian citizens to post bonds up to US$15,000 for certain tourist or business visas starting August 20, 2025. Foreign Minister Mulambo Haimbe said the policy imposes “unnecessary financial strain” and may hamper trade, tourism and people-to-people exchanges.
The move has raised questions about travel accessibility and the implications for mobility between Zambia and the United States.
